The one-cup-of-tea-dispensing tea pot is for those who really hate to share. Mr Royle of Manchester patented the pot in 1886 to spare the sibling squabbles of his kids when they were pouring a cuppa. The central cylinder mechanism ensures exactly one cup of tea is dispensed at one time. It's a must for the tighter tea lady.

Like the equivalent 'pie safe', it was designed to keep the enclosed food safe from isnects and rodents whilst they were held in a cool, dark, place, like a butter pantry or a basement.

Back when toasts were made over an open fire, at least a small amount of inedible char was impossible to avoid---crust scraping was really necessary.
