We've been reading your views on the best places to get a roast dinner in the UK with interest.
If "at my mum's" doesn't count as an accurate guide (we're sure that your mum's cooking is sensational, but she can't feed all of us, can she? Or can she?) then these are some of your and our favourite places that are the best options for a proper, slap-up roast.
The Charles Lamb, Islington, London. 0207 837 5040, www.thecharleslambpub.com
This lovely little pub is one of North London's best kept secrets. The Sunday roast is a particularly impressive treat; if you order the excellent roast beef, it comes as juicy, pink slabs of sirloin, served in a delicious red wine gravy, and accompanied by gorgeous homemade horseradish sauce and cabbage spiced up with bacon. There's also a great range of beers to wash it down with.
The Chateau Impney, Droitwich Spa. 01905 774411, www.chateau-impney.com
The Chateau Impney combines a fairytale setting with a traditional British carvery menu. Built in 1875 by salt mogul, John Corbett, it was given as a present to his wife, a beautiful French governess. The architecture might be French but the menu is pure Brit complete with prawn cocktail starters and a range of British meats including the locally sourced roast Worcestershire turkey. Sunday lunch gets booked up fast so you might want to ring first.
The Freemasons Arms, Hampstead, London. 0207 433 6811, www.freemasonsarms.co.uk
This top Hampstead dining venue has one of London's most able chefs in the capable form of Michael Atkinson (see here for some of his tips on how to cook a perfect roast) and the brilliant roasts served here make the trip more than worthwhile. If you like big, hearty helpings of delicious roast meat and very tasty vegetables, this is a must-visit.
The Old Bore, Rishworth, Yorkshire. 01422 822 291, www.oldbore.co.uk
This acclaimed and stylish Yorkshire gastropub & restaurant is renowned for its stunning roasts. One reader enthused "I had the most amazing Sunday roast there a couple of weeks back. Awesome veal, rich sauces, and rice pudding for afters! What more could one need??" A perfectly valid question.
The Wellington, Wellington. 01432 830367, www.wellingtonpub.co.uk
A regular winner of "pub of the year" awards, this acclaimed Herefordshire pub is justly famous for its award-winning roasts, which you've described as "to die for", "the best I've ever had" and "worth moving across the country just to be near". Winner of the Pub Roast Of The Year title in 2006, the judges described it as making "fantastic use of local ingredients" and "exceptional value (£17.50 for three courses) for the quality on offer".
