You can't go wrong with pesto, as it’s practically an Italian meal in a jar. When money is really tight a spoonful stirred into pasta with a handful of spinach will provide a proper meal for less than a pint.
However, if you're feeling a bit more experimental try throwing a fowl into the mix with this chicken pasta with pesto cream recipe. Pop it all in the pot with a splash of white wine and your grub will be done before you've finished your glass.
