From beetroot to blackberries, allotments in August are brimming with the fruits of months of hard labour. The hard work's over. It's time to swap the spade for the spatula. Fill up your basket and experiment.
Blackberries
Blackberries are great allotment fodder as they are one of the few foodstuffs that will grow in the shade. Plant them round the edge of your vegetable patch anytime from mid October to mid March and by August you should have a bountiful supply.
Drink the fruits of your labour with this blackberry gin recipe a perfect pick me up for when the sun goes down on a spot of evening weeding.
