Seasonal Calendar – Summer
Broad Beans
Look out for broad beans from mid-June onwards – they’ll be tender and sweet. Wonderful blended into soups or added to warm salads.
Asparagus
British asparagus tastes divine. Its season last just eight weeks from the end of May and it has much more flavour than imported varieties. Grab it while you can!
Fennel
The aniseedy taste of fennel is at its most fragrant during summer. It will add pep and freshness to any salad, and is also delicious roasted in the oven.
Strawberries
There’s something quintessentially British about locally-grown strawberries – they have an intense flavour that is incomparable to imported varieties.
Gooseberries
The stalwart of many a classic English dessert, gooseberries are full of tang and flavour. Enjoy them when they make a brief appearance in June.
