Seasonal Calendar – Autumn
Apples
Locally-grown apples have flavour in spades compared to the shrink-wrapped supermarket imports – and Britain has so many fantastic varieties!
Sweetcorn
From late August onwards, sweetcorn comes into its own. A steamed cob doused in melted butter is heaven on earth.
Pumpkin
A field full of ripe orange pumpkins is a wonderful sight – a real sign of Autumn. Sweet and earthy in flavour, they are wonderful roasted.
Damson plums
These sweet, tart plums with their inky blue skins are at their prime in September. They make delicious jellies and jams.
Blackberries
Scour Britain’s hedgerows for luscious blackberries in September (or grab some at your local farmers’ market) and bake them in crumbles with apples.
