Politics of the plate
The issues behind our food chain are often fraught with politics, something Andrew’s next hosts, veal farmers, Jonathan and Vicky Brown, are well aware of. Veal has had a bad reputation in Britain of late, with images of poorly treated calves tainting the nation's palate. But what Andrew found at Bocaddon Welfare Veal could not have been further from that image. Ethically-reared and humanely destroyed calves were being saved from the normal necessity of culling at birth and being sold to a growing market of eager veal enthusiasts
After sampling a veal steak sandwich, Andrew met up with top chef, Nathan Outlaw, to discuss the more unusual ways of cooking veal - and found himself tucking in to some deep-fried tongue.
