The culinary characters of Alderley Edge
While Liverpool’s European city of culture might give you high expectations for its gastronomic treats, you probably wouldn’t think the same about Alderley Edge. However, the modest village nestled in the heart of Cheshire is home to a host of culinary characters. It all started, for Andrew, over dinner at the 39 Steps restaurant in Styal, Cheshire where he stopped for dinner.
The restaurant is owned and ran by business partners, Duncan Poyser and John Rebecchi, who started out 18 months ago only to see their business burgeon into a catering company and traditional bakery, as well as the initial restaurant.
The bakery specialises in traditionally made English and Italian pastries and cakes and is based on Horseshoe farm in Alderley Edge. The farm is owned by local legend, Andy Morrison, who has grown his culinary empire from the basket of eggs he used to sell door to door to a farmstead where he keeps ducks, cows, pigs and sheep.
He also rents out space on the farm to a range of tenants including New York trained cupcake maker, Katja Seaton. So that’s a farmer, a baker and a cupcake maker all under one roof.
Not bad for a village.
