Munching Manchester
In a whistle stop tour of Manchester, Andrew sampled top notch vegan cuisine, cheap and tasty curry, stylish sushi and downed a smoothie or two before feeling the urge for a quieter pace of life. Having stuffed himself silly he decided it was time for a rest and headed to one of Britain’s only remaining temperance bars, Fitzpatrick’s in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.
Temperance bars were popular in the early 1900s for their strict prohibition of alcohol and promotion of healthy living. Andrew took a trip down memory lane and, for a day at least, took the abstinence pledge.
With his time in the North West, drawing to a close, Andrew made one last stop at Sillfield Farm to meet legendary pork farmer, Peter Gott. Peter is revered in his industry for his methods of pork production and has taught a host of chefs, such as Jamie Oliver, a thing or two about pigs.
After sampling Peter’s pies and wild boar sausage, Andrew was smitten and it was with a heavy heart that he headed back on the road. His next stop is Scotland for lobster, venison and a wee dram or two but how will the culinary fare north of the border compare to the delicious dishes Andrew has sampled so far?
