Bright young thing Emily Mortimer has gone from Hugh Grant reject in Notting Hill (1999) to love interest for Bruce Willis (The Kid, 2000) and Ewan McGregor (Young Adam, 2003) in the short space of a few years. After graduating from Oxford, where she read Russian and English, Mortimer initially followed in her father's literary footsteps (John Mortimer authored the Rumpole Of The Bailey mysteries), working as a newspaper columnist and screenwriter. After a few television dramas, Mortimer raised her profile considerably with appearances in international hits Elizabeth (1998), Notting Hill and Scream 3 (2000) before going on to star in Lovely And Amazing with Brenda Blethyn and The 51st State with Samuel L Jackson in 2001. Married to Jurassic Park III actor Alessandro Nivola, the intelligent actress divides her fairly evenly time between British and American offerings.
