Barbara Windsor

avg. user rating: 5 (5 votes)

Born Barbara Ann Deeks in 1937, the daughter of a dressmaker and a bus driver, Windsor made her screen debut as a squeaky blonde student in The Belles Of St. Trinian's (1955), then reprised variations on this character in such films as Too Hot To Handle, Operation Snafu (1961), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1963). With Carry On Spying in 1964, Windsor appeared in nine of the now cult camp classics, embodying the essence of British cheeky sauciness. In the mid-nineties, she joined popular soap Eastenders and enjoyed a fresh burst of popularity as no-nonsense matriarch Peggy Mitchell.
