Nicholas Coppola was born in Long Beach, California in 1964 to Francis Ford's brother. TV series The Best of Times (1980) led to his film debut in Fast Times At Ridgemont High in 1982. To disassociate himself from his uncle, at the time to halt charges of nepotism, later because of embarrassment, he changed his name to Cage, based on comic book character Luke Cage. His performance in Uncle Francis' Peggy Sue Got Married led to interest from the Coen brothers, who cast him as the lead in Raising Arizona. Has since found success in action films and serious dramas, winning an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas.
