Peter Jackson

avg. user rating: 2.7 (53 votes)

Born 1961, Pukerua Bay, New Zealand, Peter Jackson has risen from being a guerrilla-filmmaker extraordinaire to one of the biggest directors on the planet.

Reportedly a movie maker from the age of 8, when he used to recreate war battles in his back yard, Jackson's break out movie was the 1987 ultra-low budget cult hit Bad Taste. Rather than take up the offers from America, Peter Jackson stayed in New Zealand and independent films like Meet The Feebles, Braindead and the impressive Heavenly Creatures, starring Kate Winslet.

In the late 1990s, Jackson set about trying to remake his favourite film, King Kong. Unfortunately, the Hollywood studios pulled the plug on that one, but they did green-light a project called The Lord Of The Rings. International box office and critical success has greeted the release of each instalment of Tolkien's trilogy.
