Born in Paris in 1934, Bardot studied ballet as a child before becoming a model. Roger Vadim saw her in Elle, married her, and cast her in his 1956 directorial debut, Et Dieu... Crea La Femme . The film catapulted the phenomenally sexy Bardot to global fame, but being seen as the epitome of French sauciness didn't make her happy - her 26th birthday was celebrated with a botched suicide attempt. In the 60s she recorded a series of albums with the notorious Serge Gainsbourg - it was rumoured that on their recording of Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus, her orgasmic gasps were not being faked. Bardot gave up cinema in 1975 and is now an animal rights activist.
