Kathy Burke is one of Britain's best-loved comic actresses, who also earned a reputation as a fine dramatic actress in films like Nil By Mouth and Elizabeth. Born in London in 1964, she studied at the famous Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington, and got her break when director Mai Zetterling asked her to star in his film Scrubbers in 1983. Burke then took a part in Alex Cox's Sid And Nancy in 1986, before becoming famous in comic TV shows such as Absolutely Fabulous and Harry Enfield And Chums. Her film career took off after Burke gave a fantastic performance in Gary Oldman's Nil By Mouth, in 1997, which won her a Cannes Best Actress Award and a BAFTA nomination. She has since gone on to appear in Elizabeth, Anita And Me and Kevin And Perry Go Large.
