Woody Allen

avg. user rating: 4.5 (33 votes)

Allen Stewart Konigsberg was born in December 1935 and by fifteen was selling one-liners to gossip columns. At seventeen he saw his first Bergman film and adopted the name Woody Allen. By twenty he was writing for TV and by 24 he was in psychoanalysis. Stand-up and comedy albums followed before he directed his first film, What's Up Tiger Lily in 1966. In 1967 he was sued by his first wife for 'holding her up to scorn and ridicule' and in 1970 bought the Central Park apartment where he has lived ever since. Hit critical paydirt and Oscar success with 1977's Annie Hall. He plays the clarinet. His relationship with leading lady Mia Farrow ended in acrimony and the courts, with allegations of child abuse.
