The whole world knows her as the sugary Mary Poppins or the goody goody governess to the Von Trapp children in the Sound Of Music, but people often forget that Julie Andrews had an incredibly varied career. Born in Surrey, England in 1935, Andrews performed in musical theatre growing up, before coming to Broadway in 1954, where she became a star in musicals like My Fair Lady. She made her spectacular film debut in 1963, after Walt Disney asked her to star in Mary Poppins. The film was a mega hit and Andrews won an Oscar. Her follow-up, The Sound Of Music, was an even bigger success. Andrews also delivered great performances in films like Hitchcock's Torn Curtain, S.O.B. and Victor/Victoria.
