Born in Melbourne, 1969. Upon graduating from the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1992, Blanchett joined the Sydney Theatre Company and the next year was awarded both best newcomer and best actress, for two different productions, by the Sydney Theatre Critics Circle. TV roles (including in Police Rescue, syndicated in the UK) followed before she was picked up by Bruce Beresford for Paradise Road.
