The daughter of two lawyers, Olivia Williams studied English at Cambridge before two years with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. A stint at the Royal Shakespeare Company led to a four-month tour of the United States with Ian McKellen in a production of Richard III and a part in Kevin Costner's The Postman (1997). Her credibility was proved with quirky independent comedy Rushmore, and then stardom attained in supernatural thriller The Sixth Sense (1999).
