Deborah Kerr was showered with 6 Oscar nominations during her career, but never won, despite starring in movies like The King And I and From here To Eternity. Born in Scotland in 1921, Kerr performed in theatre before being cast by her producer Aunt in the films Major Barbara and Love On The Dole in 1941. She went on to dominate British cinema in the 1940s, in films like The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp and The Black Narcissus, before being given a contract by MGM. After initially being cast as the epitome of the proper English lady, she played adulterous Karen Holmes in From Here To Eternity in 1953 and won her first Oscar nomination. Fine performances in classics like The End Of The Affair (1954), The King And I (1956) and An Affair To Remember (1957) followed, but Kerr wasn't rewarded by the Academy until 1994, when she was given a special Oscar for her achievements.
