Rex Harrison cornered the market in sauve Englishmen, his ability to deploy a sense of urbanity or sly knowingness to roles separating him from the more obviously athletic David Niven another expat who served in World War Two. Harrison debuted on the Liverpool stage aged 16, and worked hard on both stage and screen, moving to Hollywood in 1945. Among his many films were The King Of Siam, the career-defining My Fair Lady, in which he starred as Henry Higgins opposite Audrey Hepburn, winning an Oscar for his performance. He was knighted in 1989, and died in 1990.
