Claire Bloom shot to overnight fame after being chosen by Charlie Chaplin to star in his film Limelight in 1952. Born in London, in 1931, Bloom started to work in radio whilst studying drama at school before making her stage debut at 15 in the Oxford Repertory. After making her film debut in The Blind Goddess in 1948, she caught the eye of Charlie Chaplin and was propelled to stardom. Her fine performance in Laurence Olivier's Richard III, in 1954, lead to a series of roles in costume dramas. Bloom also appeared in films like The Haunting (1963), The Spy Who Came In From The Cold (1965) and Clash Of The Titans (1981)
