Anna Friel caused a major stir in 1994 with her lesbian screen kiss in Brookside, before moving into film in movies like The Land Girls and Rogue Trader. Born in Lancashire, in 1976, Friel started out in British TV soaps Emmerdale and Brookside, before taking on the film industry. After making her film debut in The Land Girls in 1997, she went on to star alongside Ewan McGregor in the story of Barings Bank stockbroker Nick Leeson, Rogue Trader in 1999. Friel has since shared her time between the big and small screen.
