An international film star and a world class bridge player, Omar Sharif was born in Egypt in 1932. He shot to fame in 1962, as Ali in Lawrence of Arabia, a performance that won him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Thereafter, he starred in Doctor Zhivago, More Than A Miracle and Funny Girl. His power in the 1970s faded a little and he made supporting appearances in films like The Pink Panther Strikes Again and Green Ice. Since then he has worked in TV and become known worldwide as a bridge expert.
