Born in Paris in 1943, Catherine Deneuve is one of France's "grandes dames". After making her movie debut in 1957 as a teenager, her breakthrough came in the wonderful musical Les Parapluies De Cherbourg. Deneuve went on to appear in other great films such as Repulsion, Tristana and Luis Bunuelâs masterpiece Belle De Jour, in which she played a married woman who works as a part-time prostitute. She appeared in Dancer In The Dark, after writing to Lars von Trier and telling him how much she admired his work. Once the muse of fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent, Deneuve will only wear his clothes.
