"Help save the youth of America/Help save them from themselves/Help save the sun-tanned surfer boys/And the Californian girls." - Billy Bragg.
Fired Up is a throwaway film with an important function - it serves to remind British cinemagoers how different we are from our American cousins. Not that we don't make our share of moronic teen comedies (step forward Kevin And Perry Go Large). But if you need someone to make a film so moronic it'll leave you fearing for its fans, you'd better place a call to the other side of The Pond.
Starring Nicholas D'Agosto ('Heroes', Rocket Science) and the peculiar Jim Carrey/John Schneider hybrid that is Eric Christian Olsen, Fired Up is the tale of two guys whose crassness apparently makes them irresistible to women. But it's not enough for our heroes to score with every girl at school. They long for new experiences - something that's clearly never troubled Fired Up's creative team - and so, rather than attending football camp, they enroll in cheerleader college. Without hilarious consequences.
