Amazing Grace: Amazing Grace begins badly. A beautiful black horse is being beaten senseless in the rain at the side of a country road. A passing carriage stops. A gentleman staggers out. Surely, you think, this film about the fight to abolish slavery is not going to be so crass as to begin with a black horse being cruelly thrashed by one white man and then saved by another?
