A winning story of life at Beverly Hills high school through the eyes of a self-obsessed teenage girl
This brightly coloured satire on both the teen movie genre and the lifestyle of the rich and beautiful was something of a novelty when released.
Cher (Silverstone) is a bubble-headed 15-year old from Beverley Hills whose life revolves around conspicuous consuming and maintaining her status as top-dog at her school.
Amy Heckerling's first feature, Fast Times At Ridgemount High, was an impeccable dissection of high school. While this knowing swipe at the uber-rich kids of Hollywood lacks the dark edge of the former, it's a whip-smart film - with a lot of kooky charm.
