Vito Rocco on Faintheart

Three weeks into the edit, director Vito Rocco and editor Neil Smith report on how Faintheart is shaping up.

How did the last few weeks of the shoot go?

Vito Rocco: The end of the shoot was taken up with night shoots, 3pm to 3am. Everyone was tired, but still worked really hard. The last night we filmed was the scene when Richard drunkenly challenges his wife's new boyfriend to a duel. We were in this suburban road with Eddie Marsan screaming his head off, take after take, and none of the residents complained. The support we got was unbelievable.

What stage are you at with the edit

VR: We've been editing for three weeks and are two weeks away from our first cut. We've got an assembly which is two hours long.

Neil Smith: Assemblies don't have music or special effects, they aren't graded, the sound isn't mixed so it's never much fun watching them. They're a bit 'vanilla'.

VR: I like your ice cream analogy. You could say adding the music is like sprinkling on hundreds and thousands. Alan, the producer, warned us that watching the assembly would be the lowest point of the whole process. You think, why doesn't this look like I thought it would?
