The 25 Top Christmas Films

We count down our favourite festive films

Its A Wonderful Life

25) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Griswolds' festive family holiday unfolds as well as can be expected.

24) The Polar Express
Slightly creepy performance-capture extravaganza from Beowulf director Robert Zemeckis.

23) Scrooge (1970)
"Thank you very much, thank you very much - that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!" The locals thank Albert Finney's Scrooge for, well, dying. Cheery, isn't it?

22) Merry Christmas
Remember Paul McCartney's 'Pipes Of Peace' video? This is the big-screen version, telling the story of that World War One football match. Not shown: when a British Tommy shoots a German's leg off for springing the offside trap.

21) The Miracle On 34th Street
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, etc. However, the one down Woolworths, Cricklewood, may actually be a resting thespian called Gerald.

20) Millions
Danny Boyle's Christmas fairy tale, with little Damien finding a bagful of cash and giving money to the needy. Don't laugh: some kids might actually do this. They're mad, mind.

19) A Christmas Story
Ralphie Parker wants a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-Shot, Range Model Air Rifle, in this funny and touching autobiographical drama from Bob Clark that inspired 'The Wonder Years'.

18) Holiday Inn
Bing sings 'White Christmas'. And a song about Abraham Lincoln in blackface. It's not shown all that often anymore, Holiday Inn.

17) Black Christmas
The first modern slasher film, predating Halloween by four years. So why is it on this list? Because it's set at Christmas. And it's got Christmas in the title. Obviously.

16) Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
Men from Mars kidnap Father Christmas to make toys for their planet's children.
