What is the difference between unit and corporate publicity?
Unit publicity is concerned with co-ordinating publicity while a film is in production, assembling the stills, press kits, getting key journalists to the set, setting up interviews on set and so on. The unit publicist is preparing the way for publicity to appear later when the film is going to hit the screens and the necessary publicity materials for it to be sold around the world. Recently we've worked as unit publicists on Emily Young's debut feature Kiss Of Life which will hopefully show at Cannes this year, and in the past on films including Bend It Like Beckham. Corporate publicity is when you look after the profile of a company. Here you try and get coverage about the company's aims and direction as well as about their specific projects. On this front we have looked after people like FilmFour Lab, and Warp Films, part of record label Warp Records. They have just produced Chris Morris' BAFTA-winning short film My Wrongs and have future projects with Shane Meadows and Chris Cunningham lined up. There has been a lot of interest, particularly from the style and music press, about a record company moving into film and their ethos.
