How much can you get?
TV shows will pay £20 to £30 just to feature the front of your house. If a crew is going to shoot in your house they will probably be there at least a day, maybe more, and for this you can expect to charge £500 or more, depending upon the requirements of the shoot. If a film crew is going to be in for two weeks or more they may prefer to negotiate a weekly rate. If there is going to be a period of setting up and de-rigging, it is customary that a smaller fee is offered for these days as no filming is taking place.
What about overtime?
It's proper and correct that you negotiate one fee based on a 12 hour day, then an extra fee per hour a crew is in your home.
What can I expect?
Your house to be completely taken over. Lighting rigs, art department, actors, cameramen, sound crew, a director, producers and runners all need to be inside the house to shoot a scene. They may restrict themselves to one part of the house but if they're paying for the privilege, they will need complete silence for takes and you must co-operate.
Should I go to a hotel?
Generally it's a better idea if you are on hand to answer any questions that will invariably crop up, where the fuse box is, etc.
