Venice Film Festival

Arguably the most important festival on the calendar after Cannes and Sundance. Films screen on the Lido, Hollywood and European stars lounge around the top hotels and Hemmingway's old hang out, Harry's Bar. Accommodation is prohibitive so you must either book in advance or travel in for the day. But if you feel like sampling the heady aroma of an international premiere in a sophisticated setting, Venice is in a league of its own.
