Why you should see
Singin' In The RainOne of the most free-wheeling, infectious and famous movies of all time, Singin' In the Rain is the Citizen Kane of musicals. You know all the tunes already: 'My Lucky Star', 'You Were Meant For Me' and the iconic title musical number that every drunken, rain-soaked wannabe Gene Kelly has tried to imitate. Kelly co-directed with Stanley Donen and invests the whole project with his irrepressible energy. The movie is crammed full of ideas, a joyful slapstick sense of humour and some of the best on-screen dancing seen in a generation. With a unique sense of history, it's also a musical about the movie industry, an irreverent fictional account of the talking picture revolution which in turn led to the birth of movie musicals. A send-up of celebrity, the movie industry and stars' vanity, as well as an homage to early Hollywood, this is not a musical to be underestimated.
