O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Why you should see

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Coming after two of the Coens' best films (The Big Lebowski and Fargo), O Brother had a lot to live up to. But with its bluegrass music, a story loosely based on 'The Odyssey' and the three-way buddy act of George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as 1930s escaped convicts attempting to reclaim a fortune in treasure, it's another winner. It's not just a fun film, it's a smart fun film, packed with in-jokes (the title is a nod to Preston Sturges' 1941 satire Sullivan's Travels). The casting of Clooney - an actor then better known as a suave man of action - as a hair-product obsessed buffoon was particularly inspired. And you've got to love the vintage American folk song 'Man Of Constant Sorrow', so memorably performed by Clooney and The Soggy Bottom Boys.
