35. Betty Blue (1981)
Beatrice Dalle became a Euro pin-up after the success of this very sexy film about an odd job man who falls for the unhinged, but beautiful Betty. Spotted by the film's director (Jean-Jacques Beineix) walking down the street, Dalle makes Betty a feisty, alluring, but broken heroine. Betty Blue opens with one of cinema's most erotic scenes, in which Betty and Zorg have sex whilst the camera slowly zooms in.

34. Twin Peaks (1990)
David Lynch is a master of ever-so-slightly pervy, but ultra-sophisticated screen erotica. His films are populated by darkly beautiful, and frequently slightly unhinged, female characters whose slow-burning sensuality lingers long in the minds of his audiences. The epitome of his aesthetic is Sherilyn Fenn, who plays the aptly named Audrey Horne in Lynch's 90s TV masterpiece Twin Peaks. A feisty, disturbed teen with the looks and figure of an old school Hollywood movie star, she dominates every scene she appears in. Her most memorable, and sexy, moment is when she auditions for a job at One Eyed Jack's bordello/casino by placing a cherry stalk in her mouth and tying a knot in it using only her tongue.

33. The Piano (1993)
Holly Hunter plays Ada, a deaf mute mail-order bride who lands on a New Zealand beach with her illegitimate daughter and boxed up piano. When her husband abandons her beloved piano to the tide, Baines (Harvey Keitel as a settler gone native) rescues it and sells it back to Ada through a series of sexual favours. The Piano was a worldwide art house hit, treating erotic passion honestly, but also sensuously. The image of Baines touching the white skin of Ada’s calf to begin the dismantling of her corseted sexuality was just one of a countless extraordinary images that landed Campion the best director prize at Cannes.

32. Bound (1996)
Before the Wachowski brothers travelled into the movie stratosphere with The Matrix, they got the chance to test their love of strong women in Bound. Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly have a steamy love affair, before attempting to rob $2m of the mafia's money from Joe Pantoliano. In a scene that would be a cliché, if it wasn't so hot, Gershon comes round to Tilly's to do some plumbing, but ends up having sex with her.

31. True Lies (1994)
Action-packed 'identity' comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis as a couple in a rut. She thinks he's a dull computer salesman and yearns for more excitement. He's actually a government secret agent but can't let her know. She embarks on an affair to spice up her life. When he discovers this, he disguises himself as (guess what?) a government secret agent and orders her to embark on a top secret 'mission' in a bid to give her the excitement she craves. Doesn't sound too sexy? Try watching the scene in which Curtis unknowlingly performs a striptease for her husband, all the time thinking that he's someone else.
