STEALING BEAUTY FILM REVIEW |

 |
Lucy Harmon (Tyler) returns to Tuscany at 19 after her mother's suicide in the hope of finding love with Niccolo, a local boy with whom she had shared a first kiss during a previous vacation. There she entrusts her secret to a diverse group of elderly expats, for whom her youth and innocence act like an invigorating tonic. Bertolucci brings a Chekhovian intimacy to the story of a young girl's sexual awakening, but surprisingly little passion. It is as if he, too, is enraptured to the point of delaying her journey into womanhood for as long as possible.
