  SHOWGIRLS FILM REVIEW

A trash cult classic or one of the worst films ever made? Either way, it's provocative stuff

Verhoeven seems to have taken brief leave of his senses when he directed this rubbish, which not unsurprisingly has become cult viewing.

Setting out for Las Vegas, Nomi (Berkley) finds that becoming a showgirl isn't as easy as she had first imagined and quickly discovers the seedy side behind the glamour.

McLachlan has the dubious honour of taking part in the most laughable sex scene of all time. Seeing is believing, as Roeg might say.

Then again, it may all be a brilliant satire (just like Verhoeven's seminal Starship Troopers), but it doesn't seem that this was on scriptwriter Eszterhas's mind.
