THE OUTLAW FILM REVIEW |

 |
Spirited take on Billy The Kid that courted controversy when it unleashed Jane Russell's curves onto the cinema screen
Beset with problems from its production (director Howard Hawks walked off set) to its release (Jane Russell's ample cleavage was deemed too racy), The Outlaw is often overshadowed by its own legend. Not that the producers worried, launching Russell's career with an ardent advertising campaign. To this day, the film is remembered for Russell's sexy appearance.
Russell aside, the film is a lively retelling of the Billy The Kid story. Billy (Buetel) arrives in New Mexico and develops into an unlikely friendship with Doc Holliday (Huston), arousing the suspicion of Sheriff Pat Garrett (Mitchell). Tensions develop further when Doc's girlfriend Rio (Russell) falls into a turbulent relationship with Billy.
