Your Oscar® Rants

Nothing gets a true movie fan more fired up than if his or her favourite film of the year, or most loved actor, doesn't make it onto the list of Oscar® nominees.

You've been sending us your thoughts on the films and stars whose bids for 2004 glory have been cruelly ignored. Here are the highlights so far.

Neil says:
"The Oscar® voting committee have shown a blatant lack of any knowledge of good acting in their nominations. Giving Diane Keaton (in a sop to the elderly, again) a nomination for Best Actress, and not nominating the brilliant Scarlett Johansson for the wonderful Lost in Translation shows just how stupid the voters really are. Johansson is perfect in the film, being a brilliant foil for Bill Murray and portraying a strong, charismatic woman in her own right. This, and the Best Film nomination for the hugely overrated City of God and the lack of Best Actress nominations for Uma Thurman's awesome Bride in Kill Bill and Nicole's Cold Mountain turn shows they must have been watching a different set of films to the rest of the country."

Mary Jo says:
"Ian McKellen must be on here somewhere!!!! How can that man not be one of the choices. He IS Gandalf. No other person could have protrayed that role so well. He was nominated the first time and I believe that he should have been the first name on the list this time. He could have won the first one (*grumbles* stinky Denzel Washington, who cares what he has in his nasty pockets) but he was robbed of it. So I find that it only fair that he should win it this time. Call me a Lord of the Rings wack-o if u must but talent is what counts in the end and Ian McKellen has it coming out of his ears..."

Rach says:
"I think The Last Samurai should have been nominated in the Best Motion Picture category - what a huge oversight!? It's an epic movie with stirring soundtrack and faultless acting (including Tom Cruise - and I don't normally like him!) with fantastic fight scenes, and a wonderfully, emotive storyline - what's not to like?!?...."
