Your Oscar® Rants

Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai Nothing gets a true movie fan more fired up than if his or her favourite film of the year, or most loved actor, doesn't make it onto the list of Oscar® nominees.

You've been sending us your thoughts on the films and stars whose bids for 2004 glory have been cruelly ignored. Here are the highlights so far.

Noo says:
"I think that Tom Cruise fully deserved a nomination for The Last Samurai he worked his ass off and he was brilliant!!."

Gemma says:
"I think The Human Stain should be nominated for something. I assume as it was out in England in January then it was a 2003 film so it should be up there!! it is by far Nicole Kidman's best performance out of all her other recent films. And with actors like Ed Burns, Anthony Hopkins and Gary Sinse backing her up it has definitely become my year's film highlight - and I've seen an awful lot of films."

Sophia says:
"It's not fair! Tom Cruise should have been nominated for Best Actor in The Last Samurai, and The Last Samurai should have been nominated for Best Film! I'm almost furious! Tom Cruise is the most amazing actor ever, and The Last Samurai is such a great film – it's not quite entirely war, romance, historical or action – I think it's one of the best films ever made, even if it isn't nominated as Best Film!"

newmuzik says in the Oscars forum:
"I think it is a disgrace that the Oscars® overlooked Scarlett Johansson's two brilliant performances this year. I mean, about every other award show has nominated her except the Oscars®. They would rather have Diane Keaton's mediocre performance in Something's Gotta Give, Charlize Theron looking ugly (I don't see the big deal, the makeup artists should be getting the praise) and let's not forget the annoying Naomi Watts who gets the roles which are Nicole Kidman's left-overs. I would love to see Keisha Castle-Hughes in Whale Rider get the award and shock Hollywood."
