Oh Calcutta! (1972)

The movie's tagline - The World's Longest Running Erotic Stage Musical - offers an insight into the main reason for its notoriety. In both the stage and screen productions, the majority of the cast and naked for most of the show, a novelty that guaranteed producers and directors acres of outraged media coverage. It still stands proud (sorry!) as an entertaining exposition of sexuality and sexual mores in the early 1970s, and combines comedy and musical numbers to great effect.

Oklahoma (1955)

A classic 1950s extravaganza, despite the curiously sombre choice of Fred Zinneman as director, Oklahoma combines two sure-fire musical hit-makers: a Rodgers And Hammerstein score and Agnes De Mille choreography. Watch this film and you just won't be able to resist singing along to classic show tunes like Oh What A Beautiful Morning and Surrey With The Fringe On Top.

Oliver! (1968)

Much loved adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel about social injustice amongst Victorian London's street urchins. Little Oliver Twist is famous for asking for "more", and that is certainly what legendary Brit director Carol Reed gives us in this film - 153 minutes of elaborate sets, knees up choreography, memorable songs and lively characters.

On The Town (1949)

Three sailors (Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin) visit New York with 24 hours' leave, dancing feet and itchy tonsils. In reality they'd probably leave with a hangover, a bad tattoo and an STD, but this is pure innocent fantasy, and all the better for it. The three cheeky chappies pick up girls and sing and dance their way through evocative landmarks in the 'wonderful town': Noticeably filmed outside the confines of a studio, this is some spectacle, with charming characters and each routine choreographed to perfection.
