Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

A warm-hearted social satire featuring a dazzling double act from Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. In one of the most memorable movie entrances ever, Monroe and Russell burst onto the screen in sparkly red costumes singing that they're just Two Little Girls From Little Rock - and the pace never slows from there. The banter is witty, the outfits are fabulous and the songs are superb, none more so than Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend, a true Marilyn-defining show-stopper whose popularity transcends generations.

Gigi (1958)

Luxurious Vincente Minnelli musical with Cecil Beaton-designed costumes and sets, and terrific songs by Lerner and Loewe. One of the last great musicals to be written especially for the screen, Gigi won a staggering nine Oscars on its release. Its themes (the film is based on a Colette novella about a young girl raised to be a courtesan by her ageing aunts) may seem wildly old fashioned to modern audiences but classic tunes, including Thank Heaven For Little Girls and I Remember It Well ensure that it still has a place in musical lovers' affections.

Godspell (1973)

What started as a very modest student show transferred to off-Broadway in 1971 and became a huge hit. John Michael Tebelak's musical drama has at its core simplistic interpretations of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and came across as fresh, mildly revolutionary and musically attractive - especially the hit number, Day by Day. Not surprisingly, a film resulted and the original young creator joined the British director David Greene on the movie. The original vibrancy has not been lost in the transfer to screen, and there are New York landmarks galore to enjoy.

Grease (1978)

"Grease is the word!" Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta rock it up as an unlikely high school couple - she the preppy goody two shoes, he the wise-cracking rebel. Still as popular today as it was when it was first released in the late 70s, entire generations of fans can still sing along to every word..."Oh, Sandy...".
