Dancer in the Dark (2000)
For many, this film sounded like a joke from the start. A musical about an almost blind Czech immigrant in 1950s America, starring Icelandic pop star Björk and directed by maverick Danish film-maker Lars Von Trier - surely it would never work? Bizarrely it did, winning the Palme d'Or at the Cannes film festival and going on to wow audiences around the world. It's probably the most miserable musical ever made, and you'll either love it or hate it, but Dancer In The Dark is certainly one of the most memorable musical films of all time.
