Blood Brothers

Written by Willy Russell and set in Liverpool, Blood Brothers tells the tale of two twin brothers separated at birth. One brother goes on to live with a poor family the other affluent, raising the inevitable debate of nature versus nurture. The bloody climax, although expected from the first scene, still tugs at those heart strings.

Blue Hawaii (1961)

This has everything you'd expect from a classic 1960s Elvis movie - an attractive setting, a slender plot and plenty of songs (14 in all, including the title number). The Blues Brothers (1980)

Bursting with riotous energy, The Blues Brothers is an inspired mess of a musical. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star as Jake and Elwood Blues who take their blues band on tour in a bid to raise enough money to save the orphanage they grew up in. A hilarious performance from Belushi, combined with appearances by James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles, and a cracking blues soundtrack, assured this film the cult status it deserves. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the film's noisy, overblown sequel, which deservedly sank without trace.

Breaking Glass (1980)

Hazel O'Connor proves that sometimes pop stars can make the transition to screen stardom successfully. In Breaking Glass, she plays a young rock star, who is determined to make it to the top but who, when she finally gets there, finds her new position under threat from the lurking dangers of drugs. With its exploration of the trappings of fame, this film could be seen as the Judy Garland story. A winning punk rock soundtrack makes this a memorable Brit flick with a twist.
