All that Jazz (1979)
The late Bob Fosse's semi-autobiographical, multiple Oscar-winning account of his life and works as one
of Broadway's top choreographers and directors, dramatically told in song and dance. Roy Scheider excels as Joe Gideon,
a driven entertainer with a penchant for fast women and hard living. Combining Fellini-esque flights of cinematic fantasy
with a viciously honest portrayal of a man whose life is spinning out of control, All The Jazz turns the classic
feel-good musical format on its head to produce something altogether darker and more surreal.

An American In Paris (1951)
An American In Paris is a polished, seamless masterclass in the making of the movie musical.
A superb cast, led by Gene Kelly as a young American GI determined to make it as an artist in Paris; lavish
direction from accomplished director Vincente Minnelli; musical numbers provided by Ira and George Gershwin
and breathtaking set pieces, including a captivating scene in which Kelly and female lead Leslie Caron dance
by the Seine. A Hollywood musical that's really got it all.

Annie (1982)
Aileen Quinn is Annie, a fiery young orphan girl whose miserable orphanage existence is ended when she
is selected to spend time at the luxurious home of a rich industrialist. Albert Finney is her stony-hearted benefactor,
gradually won over by her warmth, energy and spirit. Spadefuls of sentimentality make this a musical to watch with a
big box of tissues handy, particularly when the film's diminuitive lead belts out the anthemic 'Tomorrow'.
