Favourite Film Star Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe may not be the greatest actress in the world, but in
terms of exuding movie-star quality, she is peerless. True movie stars possess that magic combination of beauty, charisma, sex appeal and talent - a larger-than-life presence that is capable of filling that huge cinema screen and invading our imaginations. Maybe it's partly to do with dying relatively young (and still beautiful), and maybe it's partly because her tragic life story itself seemed like the plot of a big-screen melodrama, but to me Marilyn always feels like movie star first and real person second. In an industry that's all about myth-making, she is a performer who lived and died by that code. She also starred in Some Like It Hot, the greatest comedy ever made.

I think he is a terrific actor, who is one of the true legends of cinema. He has amazing screen presence and is the epitome of cool, on and off the screen.

Favourite Film Star John Wayne
He was such a hypocrite, and a man completely made by John Ford, but a charismatic film star. My favourite of his films is Stagecoach, for the moment when we first see The Duke come into that coach. As far as great film stars of the future go, it's got to be Gary McCormack - he nicks everything he's in. Somebody should have the bottle to make him lead man in something big.
