 Anthony Minghella Director |
Favourite Film Star Michael Caine
"It's very hard to talk about Michael Caine in a professional way because when I was a kid he was THE British movie star and so I grew up thinking of him as sort of in some constellation I would never ever inhabit. He was one of the very first British stars who came from the working classes and wasn't ashamed of it. And I remember very early on in my career when I was writing and I was at one of the studios Pinewood or Shepperton and I remember looking over across the room and there was Michael Caine having lunch and I thought 'Oh my God I'm in the same room as Michael Caine what do I do, whatdo I do?!'"

Gabriel Byrne Actor |
Favourite Film Star Elizabeth Taylor
When I saw her in Cleopatra in 1962, I'd never actually fully realised the impact of female
sexuality, sexiness on me. And so I fell in love with her a little bit.
Not a little bit, a lot. She defines screen goddess to me...

Favourite Film Star James Dean
James Dean was my hero from the time I first saw him in East of Eden until
this day. We were enthralled by him. Three magnificent performances. This
genius, like a comet, sped through our lives and lit us up for a second, but
the reflection from that light is still with us.

 Michael Winner Director
|
Favourite Film Star Marlon Brando
He changed the entire style of acting to take it from stage declaration into cinema acting. All the great actors of today, De Niro,
Pacino, were influenced by Marlon and learnt from Marlon. In the business
he is considered the greatest.

 Steven Berkoff Actor |
Favourite Film Star Charlie Chaplin
Chaplin is unbeatable because this is a man who could turn himself into anything, and yet he seemed to put his finger on the pulse of all people, of children, of grown-ups. He dignified the name of an actor. He made you think that acting was really a great art. The sweetness of his movement, the delicacy of Chaplin, he's like a fine radar which just picks up everything.
