45. Kingpin, 1996
If bowel movements, bowling and bovine semen drinking are your area of interests, then this is the film for you. Featuring typical Farrelly brothers fare, Kingpin follows a one-handed ex-bowling champion as he plots revenge on his old bowling nemesis, Ernie McCracken, with his new Amish sidekick. As usual, the Farrellys have delivered another 114 minutes of pure filth which you will make you either die laughing or retching.

44. Beverly Hills Cop, 1984
The quintessential 80s comedy cop thriller stars Eddie Murphy at the peak of his powers as Detective Foley – charming, fast-talking and smooth as polished ice, headed for Hollywood to investigate the murder of a childhood friend. And who could forget the insanely catchy theme tune?

43. The Ladykillers, 1955
A star-studded cast is led by sinister Alec Guinness in this vintage slice of Ealing Comedy. A gang of thieves get more trouble than they bargained for when they rent rooms in the Kings Cross home of little old lady. The plan is to use the lodgings as a cover while planning a robbery, but things don't quite go according to plan. Guiness is marvellous, creepy and eccentric in equal measure.

42. Police Academy, 1984
Viewing Police Academy draws clear parallels with watching a child unwrap a birthday present, only to play with the box it came in. Self indulgent and whimsically oblivious as they are, it cannot be denied that both are a pleasure. The most basic of slapstick reaffirms its appeal under the persistence with which it is applied. Failure to unconsciously grin through this film represents a death of one's inner child.

41. Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure, 1988
A totally excellent film with Keanu Reeves as Ted Theodore Logan, one half of a rock 'n' roll band destined to bring about world peace with their music - if they don't flunk out of high school first. Equipped with a time-travelling phone box, they manage to assemble a host of historical figures, including a bodacious Socrates, to save their bacon. Glorious entertainment from start to finish.
