15. Sahara
Perhaps not so much a terrible film, Sahara is inoffensive but forgettable - operating with a machine-tooled efficiency, it seems blithely unaware of its utter predictability.
Directed by Breck Eisner - the son of Disney CEO, Michael - this is a formulaic piece populated by clichéd characters, with Matthew McConaughey as an intrepid treasure seeker and Penelope Cruz as his sexy, yet bookish love interest. In spite of some well-staged action sequences, the film feels half-baked.

14. The Island
There is so much product placement in Michael Bay's bombastic The Island that it's like reading 'Marketing Week' in a washing machine. If this seems like a minor point, it is indicative of how flippantly constructed The Island is.
Characters get out of impossible predicaments with no explanation, or desultory ones. Plot lines are introduced and not developed. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson do their best, but truly, it's just an assault on your senses.

13. Hide And Seek
Robert De Niro sleepwalks through this appalling chiller with Dakota Fanning as his gloomy daughter, prone to increasingly odd behaviour. Director Polson resorts to tried and tested scary formulas to dishonestly manipulate his audience, as well as unforgivable repeat references to The Shining, perhaps hoping that copying Kubrick's masterpiece will give his own film some much needed magic.
Instead these references show up Hide And Seek for what it is - a shambolic and preposterous rip-off with 'straight to video' written all over it.

12. 9 Songs
Admittedly groundbreaking, but dull and dreary, Michael Winterbottom's boundary pushing film is undoubtedly the most explicit mainstream film in British history (to date) with a catalogue of real, on-screen encounters featuring all manner of fellatio, cunnilingus and full penetration (as they say in porno).
Unfortunately, as The Sun newspaper succuinctly summed up, "It's boring!"

11. Elektra
A spin-off from the fairly decent Daredevil built around the titular female assassin, Elektra borrows from the legendary Frank Miller's ultraviolent comics but neuters them for a 12A audience.
It appears that Marvel have tried to contrive a superhero franchise to ensnare the female teenage market, one notoriously outside the realms of comic geekdom, and in so doing, have merely created a bloodless, ambling movie, too full of shots of fluttering hair and cloth.
